Under 10 Dollars

We went shopping today, with NO intentions of buying baby clothes.   But we bought baby clothes.  Our very first!  And, I might add, all for under 10 dollars.  Score.  I picked out the yellow and green (gender neutral), and Derek picked out the blue.  I think that he thinks that if we actually purchase boy things, this will secure that his guess of boy is correct?  But, for 99 cents each, I won't be too bummed if we don't get to use them.  Anyway, it was a fun afternoon and I'm glad that Derek got as excited as I did about baby shopping!

For Katie

I've been promising Katie that I'd get pictures of our new apartment on our blog ever since we've moved here, and tonight, while I bake Mile-Hi's and much on purple jello, I'm making good on the promise!!

Here is the view from my front door.  I love my four windows behind the blue couch.  I'm not the biggest fan of the other two couches, but they were free, as was the blue couch.  So they are PERFECT!  The table in the corner however, is new.  Probably the only piece of new furniture I own...

This is a picture standing from my hallway.  I finally got to hang frames in my home!  Now I just need to get pictures in them!

This is from my blue couch, looking in at my kitchen/laundry room.  You may laugh, you may think it's not ideal.  But let me tell you, everywhere else we looked had no washer and dryer, so I'd rather have it right in my kitchen then three blocks down!  Notice the dishwasher, a definate upgrade from our last place!  And a garbage disposal!

Making Due With The Snow

Ever since we've moved to Alaska, we've been told that if we were going to stay sane during the winters, we needed a winter time hobby or activity.  For everyone who knows me, my idea of a winter activity is sitting inside and reading.  And, aparently, staying inside will drive you crazy, because then you literally won't see the sun all winter.  So, for the last month, we've used our weekends to try new winter sports.  Again, if you know me, you know I hate winter sports.  I can manage sledding once a year, and that's about it.  And I grew up in Utah.  We've now gone snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.  Both have actually been fun.  Snowshoeing kicks snow up my legs, which then melts and goes down my socks, so I don't think it'll be my number one choice.  Cross-country skiing however has actually been really fun.  We are ridiculously slow compared to all the local pros, but time can help that out a bit.  Anyway, it's been fun to be enjoying the snow for the first winter in my life!

Our First Christmas Tree

Last year, we had a tiny apartment with slanted walls, not very ideal for anything other than a table top Christmas tree.  Not that I'm bashing my old apartment, cause I'm not!  It was a PERFECT first apartment.  But this year, since we'll be spending the entirety of the holiday season here in Alaska by ourselves, we had absolutely no reason to not get a Christmas tree.  So, in keeping with Allsop family tradition, we got and decorated our tree the day after Thanksgiving.  It's the first time I've had a real tree for Christmas in years, and it has been so fun.  I'm especially excited to go shopping for ornaments AFTER Christmas for next year's tree!  We've had fun putting presents under our own tree and sitting by the lights at night.  Even though it will be strange to not spend the holidays with one of our families, we are kind of excited about spending Christmas with just the two of us.
